I think her explanation of being an ‘outsider looking in’ makes sense as to why she really becomes a caricature of what she thinks a female rap artist should be. I think that does explain the way her accent switches up. One second it seems like she’s trying to sound very down south, next minute kind of an NY accent. Listen to the way she talks in interviews, your rap voice doesn’t become extremely exaggerated compared to your rap voice unless that’s you CONSCIOUSLY trying to make it sound that way. Which is fine, i mean listen to nicki and many of the other girls, what your voice sounds like will make or break you no matter what you do lyrically. People have to want to like your sound. She just needs to stop ignoring the elephant in the room, and clean up her voice. It makes her so hard to understand when she’s rapping and it always screws up her voice. the girl needs speech/pronunciation lessons or something. I really want to like her but if you even look at her comments on datpiff.com most people said they can’t bare her voice.
Great interview!
